This study examines the potential of magnetic susceptibility as an indicator for monitoring heavy metal concentrations in the sediments of Lake Tondano. The research aims to analyze the magnetic susceptibility characteristics of the sediments and determine the concentrations of heavy metals. Sediment samples were collected at 30 different sampling sites in Lake Tondano. Magnetic susceptibility values were measured with Bartington Susceptibility Meter MS2B, while heavy metal concentrations were analyzed using X-ray Fluorescence (XRF). Data were analyzed descriptively based on the obtained magnetic susceptibility values and heavy metal concentrations. The magnetic susceptibility values obtained for Lake Tondano sediments varied between (44.4–4800.2) × 10⁻⁸ m³/kg, indicating the possible presence of the magnetic mineral hematite. Heavy metals identified in the sediments include manganese, iron, lead, and zinc.
Sayenne Givenshe PungusVistarani Arini TiwowArmstrong Sompotan
